Horace A. Woods, 86, “Woody” to his friends and family, of St. Petersburg, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He was born Horace Alvin Woods on August 24, 1939, to William B. and Martha C. Woods. He is preceded in death by his wife, Rachel, father, mother, 3 siblings and his son, Michael D. Woods.

 

He met the love of his life, Rachel, at a Sunday dinner at his parents’ home. Woody and Rachel were married for 64 years. Woody worked for General Electric of Largo, FL for 39 years as an Electrical Engineer. He then went to work for Martin Marietta for 10 years commuting to New Mexico before retiring in 2005. He spent much of his adult life playing softball. He traveled all over the United States and played in many tournaments and won many championships. He has been awarded several batting awards, and he was the go-to guy for pinch running. His love of sports expanded to coaching baseball at Fossil Park and football for Northeast Jr Vikings for many years. He loved his 5 children and was all about spoiling his 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a diehard UF Gator fan, even if they were losing. He was also a huge western movie buff.

 

Woody is survived by his children; Vickie Anthony, Valerie (Philip) Woods-Roe, Michele Woods, Robyn (Frank) England and Kimberly Woods (daughter-in-law). His grandchildren, Blake Anthony, Amanda (Kris) Kovar, Bryant (Shali) Anthony, Krista (Bob) Avila, Sean (MaryMargaret) Nolin, Phillip (Megan) Woods, Paige (Shane) Roe, Steven Rosario-Woods, Payton Roe, Bayleigh Anthony and Amber Roe. His great-grandchildren; Annabelle and Lani Rae Hart-Roe, Jaxon and Jameson Dunne, Madison and Owen Kovar, Mila Anthony, Aiden Keithley, Luca and Liam Avila, LaineyGrace Nolin, Bentley Hughes-Roe, Michael Ramos and Evan Roe. Surviving sibling, Edward Marion Woods, of Ft. Meade, FL.

 

Services will be held at Anderson McQueen Funeral home at 2201 9th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33704 on Saturday, December 6, 2025. The family will be holding a visitation for family and friends from 11 am to 12 pm. The service will follow from 12 pm to 1 pm and following the service, we will proceed to Sunnyside Cemetery to lay him to rest. A reception will follow at Anderson McQueen Funeral home from 2:15 to 4:15.
