Carolyn M. Tierney, 92, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025.  She was predeceased by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 57 years, John S. Tierney.

Carolyn was born in Gloversville on January 25, 1933, daughter of Joseph and Mildred Paciolla.  She was a lifelong resident of Gloversville, a 1950 graduate of Gloversville High School, a 1954 graduate of Nazareth College and completed her graduate work at SUNY Oneonta.

She is survived by her six children; John, Christine, Patrick, Marcia, David, and Daniel.  Her eight grandchildren; Alexa, Vivien, Stewart, Chase, Henry, Cecelia, Theodore, and Elizabeth Tierney.  Her sisters, Mary Ercoliani; and Ann Marie Conolly and her husband, Paul, as well as loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carolyn’s career as an English teacher spanned multiple generations, beginning at Knox Junior High School and concluding 45 years later at Gloversville High School.  While raising her family with John, she was active in her church and community affairs.  Her signature welcoming warmth, quick wit, and innate generosity and kindness were core to how she lived and how she loved.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville from 4:30pm-7:00pm on Friday, November 28.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 29 at 10:00am at the Church of the Holy Spirit with Reverend Matthew Wetsel officiating; and internment will take place in the Spring.

Because Carolyn was a lifelong educator with an affinity for helping those in need, in lieu of flowers,   memorial contributions may be made to the The Salvation Army, Gloversville Corps, 10 Spring Street, Gloversville, NY, The Gloversville Public Library, 58 East Fulton Street, or the charity of one’s choice.
