It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jose Angel Valdez, also known through loved ones as Papa. A beloved

father, grandfather and friend, who left us peacefully on November 10, 2025 at the age of 92

Born December 14, 1932 in Texas and later moved to the city of Salinas, where Jose was raised, started a career, and built a family .Growing up he enjoyed being a hardworking man and helping others. Jose began his career in the agricultural field, then later grew his love and passion towards mechanics. Working on cars and fixing anything he possibly could with a great amount of pride and joy! He was known for his love towards the gnarly sport of boxing. Jose fell in love and married his beloved wife Evangelina Valdez. They had a long marriage filled with unforgettable memories, happiness, and such love towards one another. Jose lost his wife Evangelina Valdez during the COVID-19 pandemic, after caring for her throughout her illness.

Jose was a strong member of the family , being extremely welcoming and open to anyone in need with no hesitation.

Healey Mortuary

At Healey, we treat our Salinas Valley community members like family. Our story begins after World War II when Veteran Herbert C. Healey hoped to find a way to continue to meaningfully help his county and community grow. He and his wife founded Salinas Valley Mortuary in 1956 to help serve the families in the Salinas Valley area. Their lifelong mission was to unselfishly serve area families based on their strong, trusting relationship with their community – something we honor to this day almost seven decades years later....
