Elizabeth “Betsy” Louise Gehrig passed away on November 15, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born on September 30, 1933, in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania to Elmer and Thea (Lauer) Moyer. She was the fourth child, with three older sisters and a younger brother. She grew up in a happy home with extended family close by. She was close to her sisters and loved talking with them throughout her life.

Betsy graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1951. Her parents encouraged all the girls to attend college at a time when it was not the norm for women to go. She graduated from Millersville State Teachers College with a degree in Library Science on May 23, 1955. She was employed as a librarian at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Betsy loved books and was an avid reader. She enjoyed sharing books with others and discussing what she learned.

Betsy married her childhood sweetheart Gary B. Gehrig on June 23, 1956, in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania. They were married for 63 years prior to his death in 2019. They are the parents of five children: Cindy, Bruce, Jill, Fred and Carol.

Betsy and Gary lived in Virginia, Texas, Alabama and Arizona in their early married years due to his military service. While in Arizona, Gary began a career in architectural engineering which eventually led them to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1976, where they spent the remainder of their lives.

While in Arizona, they were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were baptized in 1962. Betsy lived a faith filled life. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and the temple. She cared for others and was always looking for ways to serve. She especially enjoyed visiting with others and learning about them. She was beloved in the many congregations and neighborhoods where she lived. She was a great example to her family and friends. Betsy served six missions for the church with Gary. They served in Barbados, Albania, Palmyra New York, Utica New York and the Fort Collins Institute of Religion. Their finalmission was as Temple Site missionaries overseeing the construction of the Fort Collins Colorado Temple, which she called “Her Temple.”

Betsy is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Laura Jane Mieldazis, Anna Mae Greenwalt and Mary Alice Ross, and her beloved Gary.

Betsy is survived by her brother Richard Moyer (Judy Ebert) and her five children, Cindy Newell (Clayton Newell), G. Bruce Gehrig (Karen Lyons), Jill Tracy (Donald Tracy), Fred Gehrig, and Carol O'Neill (James O'Neill). She has 18 grandchildren and 31 greatgrandchildren.

Memorial service will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 600 E Swallow Fort Collins, Colorado on December 6, 2025, at 3:00 pm. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Betsy would like you to spend a day in the temple (if possible) or donate to your favorite charity in her name.
