Dean Oliver Howe, 85, of Genoa, Colorado, passed away surrounded by his wife and children on November 11, 2025. He was born on September 5, 1940, on the family farm in Genoa, Colorado. He was the 6th of seven children born to Floyd & Florance Howe.
Dean went to school at Genoa playing football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated in 1960. He truly loved camping and traveling with his classmates.
From 1962–1966 he served in the Navy on the US aircraft carrier Midway and the US Floyd B. Parks. He was disappointed that at the last minute his service was extended by 3 months. He finished his military service as an E5. The morning after being discharged he went back to the job he had in high school with the Hansen farms. He went to automotive school in Denver graduating top of his class. He had various jobs over the years driving a school bus, running a gas station, a mechanic at Nall’s, a shop foreman for Lincoln County, and mechanic for Duane’s Repair.
In 1980 he built his own garage and started the business, Dean’s Garage. This business was a service to the community for 23 years. Many people went through those doors—for work on their vehicle, wise advice, or just a cup of coffee and a visit.
Dean was always a hard worker and besides being a mechanic he was part of the Genoa Volunteer Fire department and ran his own farm. He harvested wheat, raised sheep, and later cattle.
On the fourth of July 1964 Dean started dating Sharon (Leach). When Sharon’s sister Donna and Tom were married Dean told Sharon “give me 6 months”. Dean & Sharon were married on October 17, 1969. They had just celebrated their 56th anniversary.
Dean leaves behind his 4 children: Brenda Howe, Chris Howe, Jessica (Scott) Grote, & Nancy Howe (Rich Gross). He also always considered Stephanie Hill to be a bonus daughter. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren: Tricia (Mitch), Elizabeth (Kenny), Sam (Hailey), Ella, Livi, Lavinia, Zach & JT. He also had 3 great-grandchildren: Adaleigh, Grace, & his namesake Little Dean.
Predeceasing Dean are his parents, 2 sisters, and 4 brothers.
Memorial services are at the Methodist Church in Limon, Colorado on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:00am. Interment will be at later date at the Genoa Community Cemetery near the Howe farm. The family requests that donations be made to the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department or the ambulance service through the Hugo Volunteer Fire Department.
