David William Gizara, 77, of Hagaman, NY, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 9, 2025. David was born on December 15, 1947 in Amsterdam, NY, son of Chester and Carol Gizara.
David attended Amsterdam schools and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School class of 1966. After high school, David enlisted in the Air Force as an aircraft electro-environmental specialist working on the C-97 aircraft. After the service, he worked at General Electric. David re-enlisted in the Air National Guard. He was a full time Federal Technician and was a Master Sergeant working as a C-130 A mechanic 109th Airlift Wing at the Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia. He also took missions to Antarctica and Greenland as a mechanic.
David was married to Mary Rose Majewski on May 17, 1970. They were married for 24 years until her death in 1994. They had two children, Nancy Lee Cole (Shayne) and Christopher Gizara.
David remarried on September 21, 2001 to Sharon Gizara.
Prior to his passing, David was currently Commander in Chief of the Polish American Veterans in Amsterdam and a member of the Legion Post 701.
David is predeceased by his father, Chester Gizara; wife Mary Rose Gizara; son Christopher Gizara; and sister Karen Gizara Danise.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Gizara; wife Sharon Gizara; daughter Nancy Cole (Shayne); grandsons Michael Cole (Amberlie) and Garrett Cole (Rachel); great grandchildren Sophia McConville, Kason Cole, and Everleigh Cole; god daughter Breanna Rose Chatterton; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
David was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam, and will be laid to rest in a graveside service on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 11 AM in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam with military honors.
As a final good deed, David was an organ donor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home.
