Josefa Macias Peña, age 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born September 17, 1926, to Jose Angel Macias and Anita Olivas. She grew up in the small town of Terlingua, Texas. She was the oldest of 8 children.
She married Genaro Cardenas Peña on January 28, 1953, in Casa Grande, Arizona. They raised five children, Genaro Jr., Sylvia, Jose Guadalupe, Teresa, and Eduardo. Josefa was a pillar of strength, guidance, support, and love to her family. She cherished family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations.
She is survived by her children Genaro Jr., Sylvia, Jose Guadalupe, Eduardo, and by nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and fifteen great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Andrea Gastelum as well as many nieces, and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Josefa Macias Peña will be held on December 4, 2025, at Falconer Funeral Home located at 251 W. Juniper Ave., Gilbert, AZ 85233 beginning at 10 am. Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects.
