William “Bill” Jennings, Jr., was born April 26, 1940, at Columbia Hospital. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1958. He enlisted in the National Guard and served for six years.
In January 1961, he met the love of his life, Jeanette Black. They were married on August 30, 1962, and later had two children, Kim and William. He loved to volunteer to read to the children at Satchel Ford Elementary where Trace, his grandson, attended. He is one of the founding members of Long Creek Church of Christ and served as one of the first group of elders in the early 90s. He later went on to serve as song leader. He took great pride in working with Church of Christ Ministry at Fort Jackson where he helped minister weekly to recruits. He was an invaluable part of the ministry that led to hundreds of soldiers being baptized into Christ. Bill worked for over 30 years with the Department of Corrections.
On November 30, 2025, William Jennings, Jr, departed from this life in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Jennings and parents, William Jennings, Sr. and Violet Jennings.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim (Randy); son, William (Deena); grandson, Trace; siblings, Larry (Bonnie), Paul (Pam), and Nancy (Gary); many nephews and nieces; and his four-legged grandchildren, Whiskey and Buddy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4th from 12pm - 2pm at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209. A private funeral service will be held.
