Joyce L. Bowman passed away on December 1, 2025, with her loving family by her side. A lifelong resident of Eastern and Central Kentucky, Joyce spent her final years in Versailles. Over the past decade, she faced numerous health challenges with unwavering courage, continuing to inspire those who loved her.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Joyce is survived by her children: Veronica Rogers and husband Larry of Richmond, KY; Debra Wingate and fiancé Jess Neil Nixon of Winchester, VA; Kim Breeding and husband Doug of Richmond, KY; and son Ronald Smith Jr. of Nicholasville, KY. She is also survived by sisters Sue Jackson of Nicholasville and Nancy Richardson of Booneville, KY; brother Gary Bowman; and grandchildren Meaghan Huschart, Alec Rogers, Dane Rogers, Shawn Rogers, and Josh Rogers.
She was preceded in death by brothers James Larry Bowman and William Bowman; sister Wanda Bowman Wilhelm; and granddaughter Jessica Wingate. Joyce was also a loving caretaker to many family pets through the years, including Charlie, Bosco, Fergie, Suitsie, Luke, Mara Joy and Mac.
Joyce was born on August 10, 1949, in Pedworth, KY, to parents Fern and Bernie Bowman. She grew up in Eastern Kentucky before making her home in Nicholasville and later spending time in Georgia. In the early 2000s, she returned to Kentucky, residing in Richmond, Science Hill, Booneville, and finally in Versailles.
Joyce’s fun-loving spirit, infectious laugh, and warm smile brightened every room she entered. She enjoyed playing cards—especially with her sister Sue—listening to Country Music, and watching classic TV shows. In recent years, some of her greatest joys included sitting outside to watch the beautiful horse farm across the street and spending time visiting with her neighbors. Whether gazing out at the ocean or listening to the peaceful rhythm of falling rain, she found beauty in life’s simplest moments. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.
Her passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, but the warmth of her memory will continue to bring comfort and joy in the days ahead.
In accordance with Joyce’s wishes, the family will honor her life with a private gathering rather than a formal service.
