Margaret Bell Auvinen Geering (Margie) passed away quietly in her sleep at her home at Artesian Place Assisted Living in Olympia, Washington on November 30, 2025. She was 86.

She is survived by her son Paul, granddaughter Priscilla, and daughter Anne. In addition, survivors include her sister Betty and Betty’s children, Margie's niece Kirsten and nephew Dan who were close to her.  Brother Charles and his sons Joshua, Jeremiah, Jacob and daughter Molly also survive.

She was the matriarch of the Auvinen family having survive 2 generations of Finnish immigrants.

Margaret worked from age 18 to 76 in the healthcare field. Her positions included medical records clerk and librarian, medical staff secretary and assistant administrator at Monticello Medical Center and the Puget Sound area.

She organized and was instrumental in forming the national organization of medical records specialists and was awarded the first Margaret Geering award for excellence that was established to honor her influence in her field.

Margie was an avid reader and her favorite place to visit as a child was the Longview Public Library. Whenever she relocated, the first place she would find was the library.  Sadly, a series of strokes made reading very difficult. Other hobbies were quilting, dollmaking and watching the Seahawks and the Mariners.

Margie’s remains will be placed with her son Scott at the Longview Memorial Park Mausoleum, in Longview, Washington. There will be no services.
