Salvador Del Rio Poon, lovingly known as “Sal,” age 93, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, while staying with relatives. Born on August 5, 1932, in Laguna, Philippines, Sal lived a life defined by service, devotion to family, and deep faith.
A proud resident of Orlando, Florida since 1976, Sal honorably served 20 years in the United States Coast Guard, reflecting his deep sense of duty and love for his adopted country. Following his military service, he became a barber operating his own shop where he built lasting friendships and served his community with warmth and care. Sal was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Orlando and lived his faith through service and fellowship. He was the founder of the Filipino American Veterans Association, a social group for local retired military members, created to foster camaraderie and mutual support. On September 21, 1963, Sal married the love of his life, Lucila Poon, with whom he shared more than six decades of marriage. Lucila preceded him in death on August 13, 2024, and Sal now joins her in eternal rest. He is survived by his loving sons, Juneau “JoJo” Poon and his wife Grace, and Clemar “Mark” Poon; and by his cherished grandchildren, Victoria and Liam, who brought him immense joy and pride. Sal was a gentle presence, a source of wisdom and kindness, and a devoted family man.
