Michael “Mike” David Veder of Manasota Key, Florida was born on September 29, 1954, in Kittery, Maine and passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 71. He was a former resident of Eaton, Ohio and Cincinnati, Ohio before moving to Florida. He voluntarily enlisted in the United States Navy in 1972 and served until 1976.
Professionally a C.Ped and C.O., Michael was certified in both Pedorthics and Orthotics by the American Board for Certification. He helped thousands of patients “walk pain free” with his innovative creation of orthotics and custom bracing for those with diabetes, arthritis, various trauma as well as orthotic assistance to sports medicine. He founded Gaitwell O&P LLC, a medical practice with offices in Ohio and Kentucky. He was elected to the Pedorthic Footcare Association Board of Directors providing industry leadership for 6 years where he served on the Government Affairs Committee.
Michael’s passion for helping others extended to him being the founding Board President of Serenity Recovery Network in Cincinnati, Ohio from 2005-2010. Michael was instrumental in the World, Southwest Ohio, and Southwest Florida recovery networks for over 36 years; and a respected, effective and beloved leader in the field.
He was a member of Jacaranda West Country Club and shared many good times on the greens with countless friends. Michael was a passionate scuba diver and traveled all over the world with Kathy on dive trips. He was a dive master and assistant instructor, helping many individuals and families learn how to dive safely while having fun. Michael even found the time to work part time at the Cincinnati Dive Center, where he met Kathy 27 years ago.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ann Veder (nee Isler); three sisters, Carolyn A. Carson, Maria Baker Ballinger, Theresa E. Veder, and two brothers, David Veder and John Veder. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Veder (nee Flayhan) and his father, David Alexander Veder.
All are welcome to a Celebration of Life planned for Saturday, January 17, 2026 at 2 pm at the Venice Community Center (326 Nokomis Ave S, Venice, FL 34285).
