Dr. Sik-Toh Ting passed away on November 30, 2025 at the age of 87. His vocation was as a highly respected chemical engineer at 3M in St Paul, MN for 35 years, but his life was his family and anyone lucky enough to be his friend.

Born in Sibu, Malaysia, Sik-Toh met his wife, Linda “The Beauty of Birmingham’’ Ting nee Brain, in 1968 while attending graduate school in her hometown of Birmingham, England. They fell in love on long walks while dining on fish and chips wrapped in newspaper.

He left for the states when he was offered his job at 3M and vowed to come back for her when he was settled in at work. During their two year time apart, they exchanged love letters via the mail. Well, Linda wrote love letters while Sik-Toh preferred communicating via funny greeting cards. Despite this, and despite Linda’s Grandfather’s insistence that “he’s never coming back for you,” come back for her he did, and they were married for 57 love packed years.

Sik-Toh was a kind and decent father who was forever proud of each of his three children: Ashley, Adrian, and Emily and offered them sound, studied guidance throughout their lives. But what he gave them in spades was unconditional love and time. His costume designer daughter, Emily, would sometimes consult him on adhesives for the projects she was designing; his work at 3M made him quite the adhesives expert. He would always give her requests great thought, often calling back days later with new ideas and looking for progress updates. The wheels were always turning.

Dr. Sik-Toh Ting was endlessly curious about the world, always strived to ''do good,’’ and had a healthy obsession with what it means to be a good person, a concept that he was devoted to considering both theoretically and practically. His family, friends, and anyone Sik-Toh encountered felt the strength of his character and the unwavering devotion of his love.

Sik-Toh is survived by his wife Linda and his children Ashley, Adrian, and Emily. Also by his siblings Hie Ping, John, Nancy, Sing Ping, Shi Chiang, Sik Tien, and Dina.
