Allen Bernard McDonald, 74, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, entered eternal rest on December 8, 2025, just two days after celebrating his birthday on December 6. Surrounded by love, Allen leaves behind a legacy rooted in family, loyalty, energy, and spirit — a life well-lived and deeply cherished.
Born in 1951, Allen was a man of action — active, personable, and known for his warm, engaging presence. He lived with purpose and heart, and his smile made others feel welcome in every room he entered.
With unwavering commitment to country and duty, Allen honorably served 30 years in the United States Air Force, retiring at the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His leadership, discipline, and dedication guided many throughout his military career. Even after hanging up the uniform, his service did not end — Allen continued to work for the federal government for an additional 15 years, carrying forward his integrity, work ethic, and devotion to excellence.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Allen treasured time with his family above all. He proudly stood as the foundation of his home — offering wisdom, celebration, support, and strength in every season. His love was wide, strong, and felt deeply by all who knew him.
Allen was also a lover of sports — especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, where black and gold ran proudly through his veins every season. Game days were tradition: laughs, rivalry, snacks, family noise, and memories made around every touchdown.
Allen was preceded in death by his father, Clarence McDonald; his beloved mother, Ora McDonald; his brothers, Dutro Granger III and Horace Granger; and his sisters, Dollena Jennings, Kathleen Gibson, and Dave Ella Roberson.
Allen leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his devoted children, Cedric and Tamara McDonald, born from his union with Ann Williams. He is also survived by his wife, Lydia Gurley- McDonald, and stepson Alvin (Kendra) Gurley. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Emma Jean Oliver; his adored grandchildren, Devin (Koren) McDonald, Jazmen (Cortez) Rackley, D’Angelo (Lauren) Turner, Alexis Funchess, Corryn Talley and Nori Gurley; his great-grandchildren and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He will be remembered for his energy, his connection to people, his deep pride for his family, and the way he lived every day with intention. Allen’s story continues through those who loved him — strong, united, and forever grateful for the life he lived.
Services will be held at The Springs Funeral Services on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 10:00AM. Burial will take place at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.
