John “Pat” McCarthy passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025 in Cañon City, CO

 

Pat earned his degree in Engineering in 1965 at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI). He served in the Army for 4 years with posts in Virginia, Alaska, Colorado and 1 tour in Vietnam in 1968-1969. He achieved the rank of Captain. After returning from Vietnam, he proposed to his girlfriend, Bobbie Diane Brown. They married  September 6th, 1969 in New Orleans, LA.

 

Pat and Bobbie settled in Colorado Springs and were inseparable. They enjoyed many hobbies together and with their children including camping, fishing, skiing, 4x4 off-roading and hot air ballooning. After his military service, he worked as an engineer for many companies including Colorado Fuel & Iron, Ford Aerospace and Opuswave. His second career was as a professional electrician. In addition, he also served on the Palmer Lake City Council for several years. In his retirement he volunteered at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry and Good Will, he also gave talks at the Palmer Lake Historical Society.

 

Pat will be dearly missed. His quiet smile and sparkle in his eyes brought comfort and happiness to so many.

 

Pat is survived by his son Michael McCarthy and his wife Amy Currans, his daughter Shannon McCarthy, his sisters Rose Van Hartsveldt and Mary Westphal, nieces Christi Simeneaux , Lauri Langston, Vanessa and nephews Jarrett Stetton and Jason Stetton and numerous other extended family members.

 

A remembrance and burial will be held on December 18, 2025 at 9:00 am at All Veterans Funeral and Cremation.
