Carl Ray Lewis was born on September 16, 1962, in Ontario, Oregon, to Jim and Earlene Lewis. He grew up in Payette, Idaho, alongside his twin sister Carla and older brother Steve. From an early age, Carl was active in his church, where he met one of his lifelong best friends, Roger Berreth.
Carl followed in the footsteps of his father and brother by joining the Payette Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter and also fought wildfires. After graduating high school, he attended Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington. To help pay for his tuition, Carl worked as a campus security officer, a role he continued after earning his degree.
Throughout his life, Carl held many occupations, including firefighting, security officer, installation technician for DirecTV and Dish Network, property management, and metal-cutting machine specialist for Thyssenkrupp. Outside of work, Carl loved spending time with his dogs and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, RC racing, cheering on the LA Rams, and especially competing in DockDogs and X-Treme AirDogs events, where he made countless friends and lasting memories. His other best friend, Steve Bower, shared many of these adventures, traveling and winning medals alongside Carl.
Carl is survived by his mother, Earlene Lewis; twin sister, Carla Renslow; older brother, Steve Lewis; nieces and nephews; best friends, Roger Berreth and Steve Bower; and his dog, Maverick. He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Lewis, his beloved dogs Tugger, Gunner, and Dude, and many loved ones who passed before him.
Carl will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, the friendships he cherished throughout his life, and the love he had for his dogs.
Service will be held at Highway Worship Center, 100 S Whitley Dr Fruitland, ID 83619. Service will begin at 1 pm with lunch to follow.
