James Lloyd Smith, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, in Centerville, Georgia, at the age of 78. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life during the funeral service on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory, with visitation starting one hour prior. James will be laid to rest at Magnolia Park Cemetery with military honors, a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to others.

Born on April 20, 1947, in Easton, Maryland, James lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. James was beloved by his wife of 57 years, Linda Addison Smith, with whom he built a life full of shared dreams and enduring love. Together, they raised their children: Rhonda (Albert) Dozier, Brandi (Heidi) Smith, Trey Smith and Chad Smith, instilling in them values of compassion, resilience, and tenacity. He took great pride in his role as "Papa" to his grandchildren, Haleigh (Aaron), Avery, Keeley (John Robert), Austin, and Rainer, and cherished the moments spent with his great-grandchildren, Kynson, Chandler, Junior, and Nolan. In addition to his immediate family, James is survived by his brother, Greg Carroll; his sister, Beverly Raurik; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Trey Smith, and his parents, James L. Smith, Sr. and Evelyn Willoughby Smith.

James had a remarkable career, serving with distinction for 43 years at Colonial Bread. Only missing five days during his tenure, he was recognized throughout Houston County as the dependable and friendly "bread man." His service extended beyond his professional life, as he also proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War era, a commitment that reflected his dedication and patriotism.

Beyond his career, James had a zest for life that was infectious. He adored vacations, particularly those that allowed him to visit family, often ensuring they were near an amusement park. His enthusiasm was evident as he would arrive at the park at opening and leave at closing, maximizing every moment of joy with his family.

James Lloyd Smith, Jr. will be deeply missed but warmly remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering loyalty, and the love he spread through every relationship. May his legacy of love and inspiration continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew him.
