Betty Andrea Boles Armstrong, lovingly known to all as “Nana,” was born on August 27, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina, where she spent most of her childhood and built lifelong roots.

On August 24, 1963, Betty married the love of her life, Eddie Armstrong. Together they built a beautiful life, sharing more than six decades of love, partnership, and devotion—a true testament to a marriage grounded in faith, commitment, and family.

Soon after their marriage, Betty’s two greatest life purposes arrived: her children, Breck Armstrong and Sheri Armstrong Paxton. Being a wife and mother was the foundation of everything she was.

After beginning to raise their children in West Columbia, Betty and Eddie followed a shared dream and moved to Lake Murray, where they built their dream home. That home became the heart of their family—a place filled with love, laughter, holidays, and countless memories. It was there that their family grew to include grandchildren, and later, great-grandchildren, each one deeply cherished.

Betty devoted more than 30 years of her professional life to Vocational Rehabilitation with the State of South Carolina, a career she truly loved. Her compassion, work ethic, and servant’s heart touched countless lives before she retired.

To her family, however, she was simply—and forever—Nana. Nana by day and Nana by night, she was the matriarch of the family and the one everyone turned to for guidance, comfort, and wisdom. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her entire world, and her greatest joy was being present for every moment she could share with them.

There wasn’t a feast she couldn’t perfect. Her Southern cooking was legendary, and will always be unmatched. Betty also had an extraordinary green thumb and took great pride in her flowers, she was always able to grow anything she planted.

Christmas held a special place in her heart, especially the magic of Santa Claus. All year long, she searched for the perfect gifts for those she loved most, pouring joy and intention into every detail. Her faith grounded her, her home welcomed all, and her love knew no limits.

Betty gained her wings on December 21, 2025, at 4:30 a.m., entering eternal peace. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Lee Tindall, Rodney Boles and her Brother James “Jimmy” Tarlton.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Eddie Armstrong; her son, Breck Armstrong; her daughter, Sheri Armstrong Paxton (Richard Paxton); her grandson, Reid Paxton (David Lopez); her granddaughters, Ashlei Armstrong Rogers (Ryan Rogers) and Brooke Armstrong (Robert Yeomans); her great-grandchildren, Fynnlei Rogers and Joseph Chavis II; her first cousin—more like a sister—Debbie Hoots; and many extended family members and friends who were blessed to know her.

Betty’s legacy lives on in the faith she passed down, the traditions she created, the meals shared around her table, and the unconditional love she poured into her family. Though our hearts ache, we find comfort in knowing she is whole, healed, and home.
