Juan Antonio Rivera-Borges, affectionally known as “Tony,” passed away on December 22, 2025. He was 93 years old.
He was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico on October 4, 1932. He completed his basic education in Puerto Rico. He joined the Army and served for over 25 years before retiring as a drill sergeant. He served in the Vietnam and Korean wars. Tony was also a Purple Heart recipient. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. He also retired from the Department of Corrections, where he served as a correctional officer. He was devoted to helping others, and would do anything for anyone. Tony never knew a stranger and was a friend to all. He was faithful to his church, community, and family. He proudly served on the Knights of Columbus. Above all, he loved God.
He is predeceased by his parents, Juan A. Rivera-Bermudez and Dominga Borges Rivera; wife, Pumi Song Rivera-Borges; brother, Angel A. Rivera; and brother-in-law, Frankie Song.
He is survived by sisters, Hermes Olivia Rivera, Wanda Rivera Borges de Sanchez, and Idalia Rivera Borges de Mateo in Puerto Rico; numerous nieces and nephews, lifelong devoted friend, Harriett Sanders; and many friends.

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to MUSC Hospice and NHS Rehabilitation for their care and compassion.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31 at 11am at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209 (and will be streaming live here). A visitation will be held an hour prior. Burial will follow the funeral service at Greenlawn Memorial Park (and will be streaming live here).
