Leah was born August 9, 1942 in Spartanburg, SC, the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Butler and Sally Belle Butler. Leah graduated from Pahokee High School in Pahokee, Florida, Class of 1960.
Following graduation, Leah married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Sands, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion, settling in Belle Glade, Florida.
In addition to her loving husband Ken, of 65 years, Leah is survived by her two daughters, Joni Annette Sands of Clewiston, FL and Susan Janea Mullen (Peter) of Sanford, FL; four grandchildren; Joshua K. Beeman, Logan C. Beeman (Taylor), Danyelle L. Lenoir (Adam) and Jessica N. Giarrusso (JT); four great grandchildren, Matthew W. Lenoir, Addison L. Lenoir, Ava M. Lenoir and Tenley A. Benton; three brothers, Phillip N. Butler, Richard B. Butler and Ted N. Butler.
Leah was a longtime and devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Charleston, where she faithfully served through the Acts of Grace Food Pantry and loved attending the Joy Sunday School class. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, she loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul, and lived out her Christian values daily.
Leah embraced life with energy and determination. She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado, and proudly achieved a brown belt in Kenpo Karate.
She enjoyed traveling to places like Italy, Hong Kong, Portugal, and other destinations with her husband. She especially enjoyed going to the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, where they owned property with other friends.
Above all, Leah treasured time with her family. Every day at 5:00p.m., she would go to the back porch and stay until sunset, expressing her gratitude for the blessings of her life and Gods faithfulness throughout it. Leah was a warrior until the very end. She will be remembered as a compassionate listener, empathetic, kind, and deeply caring whose love for her family knew no bounds.
