Frederick Clifford Mathers, 89, husband of Jewel Hubbard Mathers, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2025. A native of Frankfort, he was born on August 13, 1936, to the late Lenny Clifford and Esther Ueltschi Mathers. Fred’s heart for service started when he enlisted in the US Army Reserves, served honorably for eight plus years and completed his service as a Private First Class. Fred later worked for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and retired as an Administrative Supervisor. During his career, he prepared food for many charitable fundraisers to help others in need. Fred continued his love of service as a longtime member of East Frankfort Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, the church bookkeeper, the kitchen committee lead and cook, a Deacon and later Deacon Emeritus.
Fred Mathers lived and loved like Jesus, with a gentle and charitable spirit and his heart for serving others. His life mission was to ensure his family and others would join him in Heaven. He was even sharing the good news of Jesus in his last days while hospitalized. His greatest joy was in having a house full of family. We find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared and the memories we will cherish forever.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Judith 'April' Brown (Barry) and Lisa Mathers; his son, Mark Mathers; his grandchildren, Rick, Ryann, Spencer (Deavon), Camren, Mark II (Amber), Meghan (Robert,) Mason (Katelyn), Eli, Gabe, and Nicci; his great grandchildren, Liam, Addison, Mark III, Alyssa, Illeanna, Alura, Jensen, Kianna, and Kaylee (Hunter); his great great grandchildren, Kannon, Israel, Sutton, Bryson, and McKinley as well as many friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rick Mathers and his sister, Carole Mathers.
On Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, a family only visitation will be held at Clark Legacy Center, Frankfort, KY 11:30am-1:00pm and friends may visit family at East Frankfort Baptist Church from 1-2pm. Pastor Kyle McDannell will conduct the funeral Service at 2:00pm on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at East Frankfort Baptist Church. The Clark Legacy Center, Versailles Rd. is overseeing arrangements.
