Carolyn Motsinger, 91, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26 at Levine Hospice House in Huntersville. Her family moved to Charleston, SC during WWII to be near the Shipyards for her father’s work. Carolyn was a loving andsupportive wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. Gigi was beloved by her youngest great grands and spent much time coloring, playing puzzles and developing a special bond with them in her later years.
Born Carolyn Ann Bridgman, on July 19, 1934 in North Georgia to Lola and Frank Bridgman. She was the last of her siblings, surviving Jaqueline Dykes, Howard Bridgman, Robert Bridgman and Maurice(Butch) Bridgman. Carolyn married Donald Reid Motsinger in early 1956 at Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston, SC whereshe was a longtime member before moving to Charlotte, NC in 1971 for Donald’s work.
While living in Charleston, Don and Carolyn built their family and had two sons, Michael and Jeffrey Motsinger. Carolyn worked for the bank downtown and taught piano lessons. With Don away most weeks traveling for work, her primary focus was raising her sons and serving at the church. She always loved music and was an accomplished pianist, organist, and sang alto in the choir.
When the family moved to Charlotte, Carolyn discovered her interest in tennis. She was involved for many decades playing ladies and mixed doubles in the Queen City League for Rama Swim Club, playing well into her 70’s. The family was very active in service at Providence Baptist Church. She had a heart for missions and caring for others. That care manifest itself in service. Tutoring from the inception of the Jackson Park Tutoring program and in later years the Rama Road Tutoring Program. She taught Sunday School, was accompanist for children’s choirs, sang in The Sanctuary and Senior Choir, and played in the handbell choir. She volunteered in local mission activities with Rebound, The Rescue Mission and the women’s shelters.
Carolyn worked outside the home after her sons were in high school at Import Designs in Southpark Mall for George and Mary Anne Crouch, Ivey’s Department Store, at Providence Baptist helping the finance department and serving as substitute organist. She retired from the Baptist Counseling Center as their receptionist/office contact. Her attention to detail was a valuable trait dealing with finance, insurance verification and customer service.
Carolyn loved all genres of music but was especially fond of classical and church music. She took time with her grandchildren to expose them to music and foster a love of instrumental and choral music. No matter whom she encountered whether on the street, at church or in the family, Carolyn always made time for that individual and made them feel they were important and loved. She lived her faith by spending time to make other’s
lives more full. No one was insignificant to her. Everyone is a neighbor and child of God. This was one of the most valuable lessons her family learned by her example.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Michael(Debra) Motsinger and Jeffrey Motsinger of Charlotte, NC. Her grandchildren Adam(Abby) of Charlotte NC, Christopher(Chase) and Amelia Motsinger of Kansas City Area. She has six great grandchildren, Everett, Lola, Nolan, Rebel, Olivia and Boone Motsinger. Carolyn is also survived by many nieces andnephews whom she loved and was so proud of. She was a quiet and loving caretaker of all her family and was always looking for ways to give time and attention to family.
In lieu of flowers, consider giving a donation to the Music Ministry of Providence Baptist Church, 4921 Randolph Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211. We would also like to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff at First Light. A special thanks to Ruby for her loving and patient care of Carolyn.
