Mary Ann Watkins was born in Greenwood, South Carolina and spent her childhood in Chappells, S.C. Her teenage and early adult years were spent in Newberry, S.C. where she graduated from Newberry High School in 1958 and then magna cum laude from Newberry College in 1961. She obtained her major degree in English Language and Literature and a minor in Education and Psychology. It was also at Newberry College that she met and married Robert C. Tisdale.
Mary Ann was a public-school educator for nearly forty years in South Carolina and Florida. She retired in Bradenton, Florida.
Mary Ann held a special fondness for collecting antiques and using them for interior decorating her homes.
She is predeceased by her parents, Ace Workman Watkins and Winifred Hallman Watkins, sister, Margaret W. Finch, and husband, Robert C. Tisdale.
She is survived by her children, Joseph W. Tisdale of Tampa, Florida and L. Clifton (Cliff) Tisdale of New Mexico.
A private family service will be held in South Carolina.
