It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Dad, Howard Swenson, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He passed awayon the 21st of December at the age of 98. Howard was born on the 15th of July 1927 in Spokane, WA to the late David and Dorothy (Bohlsen) Swenson. He attended Gonzaga High School. After graduation he served in the US Navy on the Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier near the end of World War II. After his discharge from theNavy, he attended Gonzaga University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He moved to Seattle, WA where he worked for Boeing for 40 years, until his retirement in 1990. He married Patricia Lucille Haubrick on October 20, 1952. They were married for 55 years until she passed away on October 26, 2007. Howard is survived by his five children: Paul (Teresa), Steven (Ann), Mary (Walt), Joseph (Judy), and Anne Marie (Dave). He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dad lived for his family, faith, and friends. His deep Catholic faith guided his involvement with St. Paul's Church and led him to volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul for decades. Dad took great pride in creating memories for his children. Every summer he and Pat would load up the Shasta trailer to visit relatives and national parks across the country. He was a wonderful storyteller and amused all through the years with his amazing memory and keen sense of humor. Along with his parents and wife Patricia, Howard was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Ferdinand (Elizabeth) and sisters, Cecelia (Francis), Mary Della, and Irais (Llewellyn).
A celebration of Howard's life will take place on the 2nd of January at St. Luke Catholic Church in Shoreline, WA. It will begin at 10:00 AM. Following the service, a reception will be held. Howard's interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle at 1:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Luke Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Conference would be greatly appreciated.
