Richard Dale Hallford (Rich), age 75, passed away peacefully at home, December 25, 2025, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Rich was born on January 10, 1950 in Vallejo, California to James and Melissa Hallford. He grew up in Napa, California and attended Lincoln School, Silverado Junior High and Napa High School through the 11th grade, graduating from Apostolic High School in 1968. He then attended Western Apostolic Bible College for his Freshman and Sophomore years.
Rich grew up attending the United Pentecostal Church in Napa, California with his family. The church was known as “the church on the hill”. The pastor was his uncle, the late Rev. Paul Price. Rich had fond memories of singing his grandmother’s favorite hymn Acres of Diamonds as a solo; playing his self-taught saxophone and self-taught drums. He was the first drummer to play in his church.
Rich met his future wife, Evelyn Pettit, in Sunday School at “the church on the hill”. They later reconnected while both attended Western Apostolic Bible College. They were married on March 20, 1971 at Calvary Apostolic Church in San Lorenzo, California with Evelyn’s pastor, Bro. Dyess and Rich’s uncle, Bro. Paul Price, officiating. They honeymooned in Santa Cruz, California.
An entrepreneur at heart, Rich began his earning career by mowing lawns, running a paper route, selling greeting cards and picking walnuts and prunes. As a teenager he worked for Chic’s Burgers in Napa, CA frying french fries. His first official job was at Eby Press which launched his life-long career in printing. He was offered the job through his 11th grade teacher who taught the printing class. He enjoyed learning how to run the linotype and his teacher referred him. He worked at Eby Press for about a year and was paid $1.35 an hour.
Rich began his married life working at Imperial Marking Systems in San Leandro, California. He began on the press and worked his way up to Production Manager. From there he worked at several printing companies and even helped a start-up company. He also was a visiting professor and consultant at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. In 1984 Rich began working for Emblem Label Systems in Denver, Colorado and in 1988 he began his own company, The Columbine Label Company in Englewood, Colorado, printing pressure sensitive labels. In 1999 he sold the company and retired.
During his retirement, Rich and Evelyn traveled over 80,000 miles in a Winnebago Adventurer motorhome, through 35 states including Alaska. They visited many National Parks and enjoyed visiting with close and extended family.
Rich had diverse hobbies and interests. He had many collections, including Peanuts comic books, National Geographic magazines and Readers Digest condensed books. Other collections included antique radios, Brownie cameras and an extensive stamp collection. He enjoyed woodworking and making toys for his
grandsons. He loved genealogy and researched both he and Evelyn’s family histories extensively. He thoroughly enjoyed researching family histories and genealogies for extended family and friends.
Rich is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Evelyn; their daughter, Lisa and her husband Scott Leidenberger of Palmer Lake, CO; grandson Andrew Leidenberger of Colorado Springs, CO; grandson Daniel Leidenberger of Palmer Lake, CO; his sister Sharon and husband Richard Fata of Napa, CA; his brother Rodger and wife Gail Hallford of Napa, CA; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents James and Melissa Hallford, his sister Ruth Dougherty, brother Daryl Hallford and nephew Anthony Hallford.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends and all whose lives he touched. Rich, you will always be in our heart and memories.
We are honoring Rich’s wishes and will not have a funeral service. A possible Celebration of Life will be arranged summer of 2026.
