Sylvia Jean Brown, 83, of West Columbia, South Carolina was promoted to her heavenly home on the night of Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
She was born November 8, 1942 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late George D. and Monteze G. Brown.
Sylvia was raised in Pelion, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Pelion High School and was retired from Bell South after 31 years of service.
In retirement, Sylvia found her greatest joy in caring for and spending time with her three beloved grandchildren, whom she cherished deeply. Being "Grandmama" was one of her proudest and most meaningful roles.
Sylvia was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, having come to faith at the age of sixteen. Through the years, she enjoyed singing in the choir as well as attending Bible study. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and then later, State Street Baptist Church, where she had many fond memories of attending the ABC Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle M. Smith (Mike); grandchildren, Kristen Smith, Katie Turner (Will), David Smith (Brisa); and her great-granddaughter, Bella Turner.
She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Shirley Ann Brown.
Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026 in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Pastor Ralph Schneck. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
