Michael Clifford Farrell, age 72, of Albuquerque, New Mexico died on December 26 at the Albuquerque Presbyterian Hospital. Born on March 8, 1953 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of James B. and Mary Clifford Farrell.

Michael grew up in Burlington attending St. John’s Elementary School where he began his long involvement with Scouting. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1971. Michael was honored to receive an appointment to the United States Naval Academy from Iowa Senator Harold Hughes and he completed his first year of college there in Annapolis, Maryland. Michael later went on to receive a degree in Education from the University of Iowa. He remained a loyal Hawk Eye fan. As an educator, Michael brought enthusiasm in teaching Science in the El Paso, Texas area. He had a passion for scuba diving.

Michael lived with bipolar disorder and was fortunate to reside in Albuquerque in the care of Linda Pegram for over twenty years. He was embraced by her extended family and supported by the local VA Community. If one could hear the lilt of Irish laughter, it was certain that Michael was engaged in story telling or singing. He enjoyed planning summer trips each year with his caregiver, Linda, and loyal friend, Rudy. He also enjoyed visits to the local casino. Michael was of the Catholic faith and found comfort in reading his Bible daily.

Michael is survived by his younger siblings, Jamie (Karen) Farrell of Eagle Grove, Iowa and his sister, Kathy (Tim) Boyle of Burlington, Iowa, four nephews, one niece, three great nephews and six cousins along with his caregivers, Linda Pegram, her family, and Rudy Gutierrez.

Michael’s preference for cremation is being honored and interment will be at the Fairview Memorial Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
