Wayne B. Fischer, 69, of Amsterdam, passed away peacefully January 1st at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
Born November 4, 1956 in Paterson, NJ to the late Marie (Albanese) and George H. Fischer, his family moved from New Jersey to a dairy farm in Glen when he was 12. He spoke proudly of the 4th of July weekend when he and his father first milked cows and he visited the farm every year on that date.
A devoted husband to his wife, Laurie, whom he shared 43 years with, they married in May of 1984 and made a home in the Fonda-Fultonville area. Together they raised a son he was so proud of, Nicholas George (Amanda) of Tribes Hill and were blessed with grandchildren, Alexandra Elise and Ellianna Marie.
He is also survived by his sister, Susan (Dr. Richard) Pierce of Andover, VT, sister/brother-in-law Michele and Ed Blake of Johnstown and a best friend of nearly 50 years, Darryl (Tracie) Bubnick of Hagaman, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A 1974 graduate of Fonda-Fultonville Central School, he attended SUNY Cobleskill for animal husbandry.
He worked nights at Albany Coca Cola while raising dairy calves that he later milked with his father in Fonda in the late 1980s. He briefly operated the area’s first slot car track in Fulton County, Fastrax, in Gloversville.
He had a strong work ethic and retired in 2020 from Surpass Chemical as a plant operator. After retiring, he grew bored and began working with KK Adams and Infinity Farms driving a truck during field work. He loved the opportunity to work on many local farms and talk “shop.”
In 2009, he and Nick purchased a 1930 Chevy in Elyria OH and together they rebuilt the car into a trophy-winning Hot Rod they showed at various car shows. He loved the opportunity to tell you about the car or take people for a ride on the wild side in it or to invite you for a beer and to share his extensive record collection in his garage. He loved showing the car with Nick and fellow members of the Misfits Car Club.
The family would like to thank Dr. Conjalka and the staff at the Tesiero Cancer Center at Rao Pavillion and Dr. Richard and Susan Pierce for constant words of Faith during his illness. Funeral Services will be held on May 1st, 2026 on Friday at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday 10 to 12 noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society or the Town of Mohawk Fire Department. Online condolences may be made at www.brbsfuneral.com
