Guy Bruce Shanahan, born July 15, 1956, in Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on December 31, 2025, in Lutz, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Joane Shanahan, and his sister, Beverly Smock. Guy is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Dawn Shanahan; his daughter, Kelli, and son-in-law, Nick Alexander; and his son, Nicholas Shanahan. He was a proud grandfather—affectionately known as “Frumpa”—to Christopher, Abigail, and William Alexander, and a cherished honorary grandfather—lovingly called “Goo Goo Guy” and “G-Pa”—to Rosalynn, Priya, Cecilia, Surina, Madeleine, Ryder, Kingston, Preston and Kennedy. He is also survived by his brothers, Kevin, Michael, and Todd Shanahan, along with many nieces and nephews.

Guy grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he enjoyed the beaches, car racing, music, sports, and time with friends. He made Lutz his home for the past 36 years and was active in local youth sports, including serving as the “Voice of Lutz,” announcing Lutz Chiefs football games for several years. Guy was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and a career veterinary technician who dedicated his life to helping animals and their owners—beginning with work in kennels as a teenager. He worked at Tampa Palms Animal Hospital from 1988 until his retirement five years ago, where he was deeply respected for his compassion, dedication, and steady, caring presence.

Guy loved fishing, golfing, reading, watching Gators and Packers football, and caring for the birds and squirrels in his neighborhood. He was known for his quick wit, love of a good joke, and gift for storytelling. Always willing to help others in need, Guy played an important role in his family’s annual charitable donations to All Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, and Fostering Hope Kids Closet.

Above all, Guy treasured time with his family—especially the youngsters—and took great joy in sharing his many life lessons with them. One of his greatest joys was serving as Santa Claus, spreading Christmas cheer to patients at Moffitt Cancer Center and to families through organizations supporting children with special needs.

The family will host a Celebration of Life gathering in the spring, with details to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy’s honor to Posability Inc., an organization serving families of children with special needs and one of Guy’s favorite places to volunteer his time and Santa talent.

Donations may be made online at www.posability.life   Or by mail to:

POSABILITY INC.14391 Spring Hill Dr.Spring Hill, FL 34609

Guy will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor, and the love he shared so freely with his family, friends, and community.
