Erika Martha Boethig, born Heese on June 9, 1934, in Germany, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Port Charlotte, Florida, at the age of 91. She was the beloved wife of the late Hans Boethig and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose spirit will be cherished by her family and friends.

Born in Germany, Erika later emigrated to the United States, where she began a new chapter filled with hard work, resilience, and devotion to family. Early in her life, she worked in the upholstery division of Volkswagen (Germany), demonstrating her lively spirit and skill. She later settled in Newark, New Jersey, where she married her beloved husband, Hans. Together they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2008.

Erika later moved to Iselin, New Jersey, where she raised her three children. A talented and meticulous seamstress, she provided alterations services from her home for many years, a reflection of her strong work ethic, creativity, and pride in caring for others. In time, Erika relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida, where she continued her commitment to friendship and community through home property services, assisting and welcoming many friends and visitors from Germany.

Erika was the heart and soul of her family, embodying kindness, warmth, and energy in all her endeavors. Her home was always open and welcoming — the center of family gatherings, holidays, and cherished vacations. She found immense joy in preparing delightful meals, painting, listening to music, gardening, and basking in the warmth of the sun she loved so dearly. Above all, Erika treasured her family and the moments they shared together.

She is survived by her sons, Carsten (Jill) of Port Charlotte, FL, and Thomas (Michele) of Punta Gorda, FL, and her daughter, Ilona Weber (Mick) of North Port, FL. Erika was a loving “Omi” to Krista, Kelsey, Kort, Connor, Ava, Lindsay, and Kaley, and a cherished great-grandmother to Ellie and Charlotte. She also leaves behind her siblings, Manfred and Thea, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

While Erika will be profoundly missed, her legacy of love, optimism, and devotion to family will carry on in the hearts of those she touched. A private celebration of her life will be held by the family at a later date.
