LaVonne Lucile Wittwer (Walden) entered eternal life on January 1, 2026. Although she was no longer able to say it out loud, making it into one more year was no doubt a reward of some sort - a coupon she can redeem in the next world.
Born on April 23,1931 to Leonard and Lucile Walden, LaVonne was originally raised in the country just outside of New Glarus, WI. Educated in a rural one room schoolhouse, she moved to the "big city" in 1941. After graduating from New Glarus High School in 1949, she began dating her handsome former classmate and good friend, Rodney J. Wittwer. Upon graduation from UW-Platteville with a degree in Elementary Education, she and Rodney were married on June 21, 1953.
LaVonne and Rodney, along with their 4 children, eventually settled in rural Jefferson County, where LaVonne tried, but failed, to interest her children in raising farm animals. She was a resourceful and fulfilled wife, mother, chef, baker and band-aider to her grateful brood.
An active golfer and bowler, she was also a gin rummy, euchre and bridge aficionado. Watching the Brewers, Packers and Badger sports was a highlight for her. She also enjoyed birdwatching and attending her grandchildren's various sporting and musical events.
A faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson for over 55 years, she served in various roles such as counting offerings, church secretary and Circle leader. Other volunteer work included delivering Meals on Wheels, working at the polls and a Thrift Shop officer. She also baked treats and delivered birthday gifts to residents at the Wales School for Boys.
LaVonne is survived by one sister, Darlene Waelchli, of Janesville; her 4 children: Rodney (Deborah Parker) of Medford, MA; Daniel of Cottage Grove; special daughter-in-law Wendy Wittwer of Cottage Grove; Laurie Morrow of Lake Mills; and Janeen Sanders (Eddie) of Cary, NC. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Michelle, Amanda and Jacob (Melissa Vrabel) Morrow; Alex Wittwer; Eddie Sanders, Jr; and her great-granddaughter, Brittyn Morrow.
LaVonne was pre-deceased by her husband, Rodney; her sister, Judith Walden; and her son-in-law, Daniel Morrow.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Reena
Senior Living, where LaVonne made her home for the last 5 1/2 years, as well as Rainbow Hospice, who eased LaVonne's transition into eternal rest. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Rainbow Hospice or a food pantry of your choosing.
A celebration of life will be held on January 24, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 314 Barrie Street, Fort Atkinson, WI, 53538, from 11:00AM - 1:00PM.
“Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now; he set me free.”

We Entrusted LaVonne Wittwer's Care To
Nitardy Funeral Homes - Fort Atkinson
We have proudly served the Southern Wisconsin community for over 90 years, when Hilmar A. Nitardy opened his first funeral home in the area. In 1984, his son Russ knew it was time to offer professional, compassionate services to the Fort Atkinson community, and we constructed a new funeral home to address its needs. We feel so fortunate to be a part of the community, and have grown our family alongside the community for three generations....
