Richard Shannon Sikes, 63, passed away December 15, 2025, from injuries suffered in a tragic automobile accident. Shannon (or Richard, as some knew him) was born June 16, 1962, in Shelby, North Carolina, to the late Frank Sikes, Jr. and Jean Sikes. He is survived by his two sisters, Melinda Sikes Fair and Hayden Sikes Soloway, several nieces, nephews and cousins, many friends, and Sisters and Brothers in Christ. He was preceded in death by his brother, Skipper (Frank Sikes, III). He was a member, and was baptized into the Church of Christ, and attended church faithfully in Charlotte, Gastonia and Shelby for many years.

Shannon had so many struggles in his life, but he was always good to other people. He reached out to many folks who were homeless or who suffered with mental illness. He did the best with what he had, maybe not by other people’s standards, but considering the depths that he had once fallen to, the recovery he reached and maintained all these years was remarkable. Best of all, when Shannon found God, he kept Him in his life. Shannon would often end his social media posts by saying, “I love you all.”

The family would like to offer our sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and technicians in ICU at Atrium Health CMC in Charlotte for caring for Shannon in such a compassionate and loving way. Our gratitude also extends to Pastor Terry Graves of Shelby Church of Christ, Allegiance Staffing and Volvo Mack in Kings Mountain, NC for their compassion, kindness and generosity, and to all family and friends who prayed for Shannon, and for their love and kind expressions of sympathy.
