David Stuart Patience — June 24th, 1951 - December 28th, 2025
On Sunday 12/28 — with his loving wife and best friend holding his hand, and his nearly equally loved Seahawks playing on his TV, Davy took his last breath.Born in Chicago, he became the third child of David and Rosemary Patience.
In his youth, Davy shared many fond memories of his siblings and going on family camping trips together. As a teenager, Davy grew up at the center of hippie culture and embraced it fully; he hitchhiked all around the country — often without even a pair of shoes on his feet!
He eventually landed in Snohomish, Washington and finally settled down, meeting his wife Carole and becoming a family man.Davy met Carole in the late 80s and theirs was not initially a match made in heaven. He admired her knowledge of football (for a girl) but he disliked her misguided loyalty to the Raiders. It didn’t take long for her to join him in his love of the Hawks. Football season was their favorite time of the year. Through a weird combination of circumstances, they ended up“dating.” Eventually, Carole introduced Davy to her girls. It’s certain that he fell in love with the kids before his feelings for Carole were solid. He became a father, not reluctantly, but cautiously, never overwhelmed by the responsibility. He accepted his new family with humor, patience, generosity, and love. He became the kind of father that any child would be blessed to have. On the other hand, the sisters he raised with Carole were stubborn, rambunctious and wild… The girls took time to warmup to him, appreciative of the space he allowed them. He earned their trust by continuing to be there when needed. These girls that were once hesitant towards him grew up to call him their hero and pillar. After an injury, Davy returned to school and became a welder. Ultimately, his chosen profession became concrete; he designed and built columbariums. His beautiful work can be found in National Cemeteries all over the United States. He loved his job and was retirement age when the business was sold. Instead of taking up a hobby in his retirement, Davy became the caretaker of his grandkids. For years, he got them to preschool and stood in the rain with them getting on and off the bus. He spent summer days with them, teaching them to cook mostly pancakes and how to perfect fried eggs. He also refereed and kept them from burning the house down. All of Davy’s grandchildren remember him as perhaps their earliest mentor in sarcasm and as someone who gifted them with endless giggles.
Carole and Davy spent many beautiful vacations in Hawaii and shared a love of the
Islands and Aloha Spirit.
Davy was smart, funny, loving, and a beautiful man inside and out. Davy was preceded in death by his sister Deana (in childhood), His Father David, his
brother Stephen. He is survived by his partner and wife of 34 years, Carole, daughters Casey, Kelly (and
Justin), Cory. Grandchildren Lily, Bella, Logan, Taylor, Zoe and Jamie. He is also survived by
his beloved Sister Susan, and his much loved Kid Brother Ken (Mary Lou).
At his request, there will be no funeral, but the family will gather in his memory this
summer on his birthday. The family loves Davy greatly and will carry with them his grace and humor always.
