James “Jim” Michael Shubin, 81, of Odessa, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, in Tampa, Florida. He was born on January 22, 1944, in San Francisco, California, and grew up in Kerman, California.

 

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. His service was recognized with several honors, including the Sharpshooter Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

 

After his military service, Jim pursued higher education and graduated from California State University, Fresno (Fresno State) in 1972 with a degree in Criminology. He went on to serve the State of California as a Special Investigator, dedicating his professional life to public service with integrity and commitment.

 

Jim had a deep appreciation for life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. He loved fishing, NASCAR, football, baseball, and sports of all kinds. He enjoyed reading, watching movies, and traveling—especially the ten years he spent exploring the country by RV. Above all else, Jim cherished his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.

 

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Caron Shubin; his children, Michael/ Marissa Shubin and Karra/ Toby Hall; his grandchildren, Tayden Hall and Kendall Hall; and his brothers, Nick/ Ardis Shubin and Gary/Barbra Shubin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick Shubin Sr. and Betty Shubin.

 

Jim will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his work, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
