Michael Alfred Hays

July 14th, 1942 – December 31st, 2025

Michael (Mike) was born on July 14th, 1942, in Shelton, Washington and passed unexpectedly and peacefully on December 31st, 2025.

Mike graduated from Saint Martin’s High School in Olympia in 1960. He went on to serve in the Air Force and received an honorable discharge in 1969. Mike began his career at Pacific Maritime Association in Olympia and then Tacoma. The highlight of his career was promoting to crane operator until retirement. He was proud of his career and loved the work.

Mike and his wife Barbara Owings were married on January 6th, 1973. They spent their retirement traveling in their motor home, wood crafting, cruises to many places, and walked the entire USA through Capitol Volkssport Club. Razor clam digging was a favorite pastime, and Mike was happy when he taught his son Scott - they enjoyed many outings together.

Mike and Barb moved to Panorama in Lacey in 2012.

Mike is survived by his wife Barbara. Mike is also survived by his son Scott Halstead (Lori) of Olympia; his granddaughter Brianna (Peyman); and three great-grandsons: Dylan, Aiden and Oliver, all of Victoria, BC.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Elizabeth (Betty) Hays, his brother Steve Hays, and his grandson Brandon Halstead. Mike was a devoted husband who loved Barbara deeply and worked hard to give her a great life. He will be missed by all who loved him.
