Mary P. Fletcher passed away on January 11, 2026. She was born in Utica, NY, and moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 1976 to work for the St. Petersburg Times, where she worked for 20 years. She obtained her private pilot license through Civil Air Patrol and thereafter flew for them, obtaining the rank of Captain. Mary was active in aviation locally and internationally. She joined the International Organization of Women Pilots (also known as The 99s), serving as Governor of the Southeast section of The 99s.
Over the years, Mary has been a member of the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts, The Dunedin Museum, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Florida Aviation Museum. She was a Charter Member of the Vinoy Club and was a member and current President of the Florida Aviation Historical Society. She was a member and volunteer of St. Mary Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Mary was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline R. Fletcher.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 515 4th St. S., St. Petersburg, FL 33701, January 29, 2026 at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to Pet Pal Animal Shelter, 405 22nd St S, St. Petersburg, FL 33712 or a charity of your choice. Loving sisters, together forever.
