Loran J. Unger, age 89, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Loran proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, completing 23 years of dedicated military service. During his distinguished career, he earned numerous medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, reflecting his exceptional commitment and professionalism. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Loran worked as a real estate appraiser.
A man of deep curiosity and craftsmanship, Loran enjoyed genealogy, woodworking, and travel. He was a significant contributor to Mennonite genealogy and history, generously sharing his research and knowledge with others and leaving a lasting impact on the preservation of family and community histories.
On February 8, 1988, Loran married Estelle Florence Czozki.
He is survived by his sisters, Irene Quirring of Dallas, Oregon, and Dorothy Dick of Richey, Montana; his brothers, Allan Unger of Cañon City, Colorado, and Frank Unger of Winkler, Manitoba, Canada, his son, Richard Czoski of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and his beloved granddaughters, Paige Czoski and Brooke Czoski, also of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Loran is being served by All Veterans Burial & Cremation of Colorado Springs. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Pikes Peak National Cemetery on February 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable contributions be made in Loran’s memory to the Salvation Army.
