Kenneth D Smith, age 82, passed away unexpectedly on January 5, 2026 while in a rehab facility healing from cancer surgery. He was born in Allons, Tennessee on March 21, 1943. He was the son of Herschel and Katie Smith.
He worked at many different jobs picking fruits and vegetables to construction until being drafted into the Army to fight in Viet Nam on his 25th birthday. He liked the Army structure and lifestyle and stayed in for 20 years. After Viet Nam, he married and is survived by wife Julie (Howard) Smith. They were married over 55 years.
Kenneth is also survived by 4 children; Son, Nathan Smith and fiancée Ame Farina of Colorado Springs; daughters, Cherri Rowland and husband Keith of Tazewell, Tennessee; Kerry Hamrick and husband Carl of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Jennifer Brickell and husband West of Colorado Springs; 7 grandchildren Julia Rose and wife Courtney; Kramer ; Kyle; Isaac; Erynn and husband Brook; Kaleb; Becca and fiancée Logan; 2 great grandchildren Carter and Kaycee; brother, Thomas Smith and wife Shirley; sister, Linda Chilton; and many nieces and nephews including cherished niece Michele Hofmann who he considered a bonus daughter. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, nephew Jeffrey Smith, grandson Bailey Smith and brother-in-law Jimmy Chilton.
Kenneth loved woodworking, refinishing old furniture, gardening, mostly growing flowers, fishing and camping all over the state of Colorado. He was never one to pass up a good deal at a yard sale or estate sale. Collecting radios was a passion. But he mostly loved talking, eating and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Cremation will be handled by All Veterans Funeral and Cremation followed by a small family memorial. Remains will be taken to Tennessee to be buried with his parents per his request.
