Colonel Carl L. Reed II, USAF Retired, 60, of Yuba City, CA, passed away on January 4, 2026.
He was born in 1965, to Carl and Helen Reed. Raised in a military family, he grew up across America and Europe.
Always the scholar and athlete, Carl turned down collegiate and professional baseball opportunities to pursue Army ROTC at the University of Akron.
He commissioned as an Army Military Intelligence officer, where he served overseas.
After his Army commitment, he attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School and then entered the U.S. Air Force as a Judge Advocate General or "JAG".
He served stateside and abroad, in roles such as Area Defense Counsel, military judge, and Staff Judge Advocate.
Carl transitioned to the Air Force Reserves and private practice to spend more time with his family, ultimately retiring as a Colonel.
Carl served combat tours for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Army, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Air Force.
As a loving husband and father, Carl demonstrated selflessness in the care and protection he provided to his family.
His loyalty to faith, family, and country was unquestioned. He is already deeply missed.
Carl is survived by his wife, of 35 years, Simone (Foster) Reed, of Yuba City, CA; daughters, Olivia Reed, of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sarah Reed, of Roseville, CA; sisters, Veronica (Mark) Cordisco of Summerville, SC; and Julie (Robert) Johns, of Sierra Vista, AZ; brother, Blair (Brenda) Reed, of Mascoutah, IL; many in-laws; nieces; nephews; cousins; and lifelong friends.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Helen; and father, Carl.
A graveside service will be held under the direction of Ullrey Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 1 PM, at Sutter Cemetery, with a reception to follow.
