Ethan Ashton Malik of Punta Gorda, Florida crossed over on Saturday January 3, 2026, in a tragic accident at the age of 22. Born September 1, 2003, in Port Charlotte, Florida he is the loving son of Racheal Barnes-Stapleton and Jess Malik II as well as his stepmom, Jacqueline Malik; the devoted brother of Jess Malik III; his half-brother, Maximus Malik; his stepsister, Mary Hughes; and his stepbrother, Edgar Silva. Ethan also cherished his grandparents; Pamela Malik (Mema); Douglas Barnes Sr. (Pappy) and his wife Tashma Barnes; Lisa Barnes-Kudla (Nana) and her husband, Chris Walling; and as well as throngs of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends, and his Faithful Australian Sheppard, Buster.
Ethan was an honor student who made lasting impressions and friendships everywhere he lived including in Florida, Mexico, South Carolina, and Idaho. Some notable commendations he received include his “Honors Leadership Award” from Caloosa Middle School in Cape Coral Florida; the “U.S. Army JROTC Cadet Challenge Certificate” for having demonstrated Leadership Excellence and Outstanding Mental and Physical Endurance in “The April 2019, Cadet Challenge Competition” at Mariner High School in Cape Coral, Florida. Ethan graduated from Mariner High on May 21, 2022.
Ethan lived his life with warmth, humor, generosity, and dedication to help others any way he could. In academics and life, he shined exceptionally brightly, finding the most joy in working with his hands, building, fixing, and creating. Whether helping to repair a home or offering encouragement and support, Ethan showed up for others without hesitation. In his far too brief and beautiful adulthood; he willingly lent his hands to help any person or animal in need. A true and spirited Samaritan, he gave love freely, often accompanied by his contagious laughter and infectious smile. His caring presence was felt by all who knew him.
Our Beloved Ethan is now in the tender loving care of his great-grandparents, (G.G & Grumpy); his paternal grandfather (Big Jess); and a multitude of family and friends who have crossed over before him.
Though you have gone too soon, YOU ARE~ Forever & Always~ To Infinity & Beyond ~ in our Hearts & Souls until we hug again…keep doing it your way, Ether!
