Charles Anthony (Tony) Livers
On December 2nd, 2025, Mr. Charles Anthony “Tony” Livers passed away at the age of 69 years old in Greensboro, North Carolina from complications following a lengthy illness. Tony was born on October 7th, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio and raised as the only child of Claude and Florence Livers. He grew up surrounded by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. After matriculating through the Cincinnati public school system and graduating from Woodward High School in 1974, Tony attended Hampton University where he met the love of his life and future wife, Ancella. The two were subsequently married on April 15, 1979, and later welcomed two amazing sons, Lateef and Akil, as a result of their union.
Along with his wife, Tony’s life reflected a true partnership of shared responsibilities, sacrifice, and mutual respect. As such, his career was often marked by a variety of jobs across multiple locations as their diverse professional choices and commitments involved multiple geographic transitions and, at times, required that he take on primary domestic and parental responsibilities for the family to ensure consistency. Nevertheless, of the many jobs Tony held over the years, there were two that seemed especially meaningful for him. First, while living in Morgantown, West Virginia, Tony was a proud member of the Steelworker’s Union for a number of years and served for a period of time as the union’s vice president. Second, and perhaps the job he most cherished, he worked for the Guilford County School’s After-School Care Enrichment Services (ACES) program as the Site Coordinator at Irving Park Elementary, a role he once described as, “it may not have been the best paying job, but it was the most rewarding.”
Tony was also something of a renaissance man and tended to add value to each experience while concurrently helping to accommodate and entertain others. He loved music, especially R&B and jazz, and was widely known for his culinary prowess as he consistently impressed others with his gourmet-level meals while making it seem easy. He loved sports, especially the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, and passionately followed politics while reflecting an objective perspective and advocating for justice and equality. In sum, Tony was an inquisitive, knowledgeable, kind, and engaging conversationalist without ever coming across as being a “know it all.”
Tony was predeceased by his beloved parents, the late, Claude Livers Jr. and Florence (Palmer) Livers. He is survived by his wife, Ancella (Bickley) Livers Ph.D.; sons, Lateef (Melanie); Akil (Cathryn); grandchildren, Amari and Kai; honorary sisters Cathy Tatum and Cille Johnson; and a host of extended family members and beloved friends.
A Celebration of Life will occur on March 21st from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro, North Carolina.
