On January 5, 2026, Jeffrey Warren Smirl lost his battle with Depression. Jeff was born on April 14th, 1963, to Dr. Warren G. Smirl and Jean Marie (Eales) Smirl.

Jeffrey was witty, sensitive and smart as a whip. He was always a hardworking employee and an animal lover who left behind his 2 beloved cats, Luna and Mirage (currently being cared for and available to adopt at HAWS of Waukesha County). With his excellent memory, he was the keeper of the family memories and our source for all things forgotten by many but remembered by Jeff. He had some of his happiest years when he moved back from Boston to Waukesha where he was surrounded by his family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind his sister, Holly Wirth (John), brother Ned Smirl (Kay Kenealy), and brother Terry Smirl. He was uncle to Sarah VanGrunsven (Matthew), Christopher Smirl (Danyel), Perry Wirth (Aletha Champine) and Bennett Wirth (Michaela Brown). Jeff was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Jean Smirl, brother Todd Smirl, and sister-in-law, TuAnh Smirl. Jeffrey also leaves behind many long-time and loyal friends who knew his caring and compassionate nature.

Donations can be made to NAMI Southeast Wisconsin. NAMI, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the country.

If you or someone you know is feeling overwhelmed or is experiencing a mental health crisis, please call the Suicide Lifeline at 988 or text 741741. Jeff was dearly loved by many. Please join for a celebration of life at the House of Guinness (354 W Main St Waukesha, WI 53186) on January 31st from 5-7 pm.
