Jay C. Blankenship, 79, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. He was born in Hartsville, Tennessee, on January 18, 1946, to the late Lester and Alta Dixon Blankenship. Jay honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1968, which included a tour in Vietnam. Following his military service, he established a career in the car business within the Tampa area.
An avid golfer with a deep love for the outdoors, Jay was happiest when he was traveling, camping, or fishing across the United States. Among his favorite destinations were Bar Harbor, Maine; Roan Mountain; and Ft. Desoto. He also had a great fondness for cruising.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen McVicker Blankenship; his daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Divoky; and his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Divoky and Logan Divoky. He also leaves behind his brothers, James "Bud" (Patricia) Blankenship, Lester (Mary) Blankenship, and J.W. (Linda) Blankenship; and his sisters, May Rehia Anderson and Betty (Junior) Clark. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Susan (Chris) Collins and Robert McVicker.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, January 22nd, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Loyless Funeral Homes, with a service immediately following at 2:00 PM. Interment will take place on Friday, January 23rd, at 8:30 AM at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
