Donald Wayne Schofield, born on January 11, 1933, in Edwards, New York, lived a life devoted to family, service, and commitment, leaving a remarkable legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him. He peacefully passed away in Tampa, Florida, on January 5, 2026.

A proud alumnus of Harrisville Central School, Donald graduated in 1951, demonstrating his athletic prowess by lettering in basketball and showcasing his creativity through performances in school plays. His pursuit of academic excellence continued after high school, culminating in an Associate degree in Business Administration in 1983—a testament to his enduring ambition and dedication to personal growth.

In 1951, Donald began his distinguished military career, enlisting in the United States Naval Reserves as a Seaman Apprentice. His commitment to service led him to the United States Air Force, where he served with honor from 1951 until 1977, achieving the rank of Major. He completed Officer Candidate School in 1959, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant, and later achieved the rank of Captain in 1967 while receiving numerous awards for his outstanding service, including the Outstanding Unit Award for the 97 Bombardment Wing and multiple Air Medals. His dedication to his nation was marked by several accolades, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Beyond his illustrious military career, Donald was a beloved family man, preceded in death by his parents, Carl Lewis Schofield and Eila Rose Cassidy, and his sister, Joanne Gail Pacquin. He is survived by his brother, Peter Schofield (and Maggie), children Y Doray Schofield Lendacky (and Tom), Garry Schofield Sr., Sandra Schofield, Vicki Schofield, and Stephen Schofield. He cherished his legacy and was a doting grandfather to Jason Ware (and Kristi), Aaron Schillings, Garry Schofield Jr., Mia Schofield, Bradley Schofield, and Jensen Hughes (and David), as well as a great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, embraced by a family that loved him deeply.

In his personal life, Donald was known for his kind, funny, and honest demeanor. He was an inquisitive soul, always willing to learn and share his knowledge with others. His interests included playing bingo, bowling, golfing, throwing darts, swimming, doing crossword puzzles, and indulging in a good book—all activities that brought joy to his life and those around him.
