CROSKEY, Gail Diane, (Stevens), age 70, formerly of Dayton, OH passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 in Hilton Head, SC. Gail was born in West Chester, PA on December 28, 1955.
Gail was a graduate of Centerville High School in 1973, studied nursing at Kettering College of Medical Arts from 1974-1976, and earned her BSN in Nursing Research from Capital University in 2000.
Gail built a dedicated and varied career in health care and support roles. She was a clinical nurse for many years, a legal secretary, a school nurse, and later worked for THE Ohio State University in cancer research.
Gail was kind, full of energy, and could make a friend wherever she went. She loved good food, especially fresh seafood, shopping for a deal, and being outdoors. A lifelong lover of warm weather and the ocean, Gail found her greatest peace near the water. She treasured childhood memories of crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay with her dear aunt Janet, uncle Al and cousins Joanne and Joel Frybarger. Above all, Gail loved her children and was a doting grandmother to her six adored grandchildren.
Gail is preceded in death by her parents Pat and Paul Stevens, as well as her beloved extended family including her aunt Janet Frybarger, uncle Al Frybarger, and cousin Joel Frybarger.
She is survived by her son Matthew Croskey of Dayton, OH, his wife Georgeanne, and their children Grace, Jack, and Lorelei; her daughter, Abbey (Croskey) Short of Columbus, OH, her husband Jacob, and their children Griffin, Lucy, and Ruby; her dear cousin Joanne Frybarger; her brother, Michael Stevens; and her sister, Cathy (Stevens) Brady.
Family will greet friends and loved ones for a Celebration of Life Open House on January 31st from 1pm-4pm at Ray’s Wine Spirits and Grill located at 8268 N Main Street, Clayton, OH.
In lieu of flowers, Matt and Abbey will be installing a permanent brick and making a donation to THE Ohio State University in Gail’s name and memory. Anyone who knew Gail knew how much she loved all things Ohio State. Donations can be made to a Venmo account in Gail’s name: @GailCroskey or please call Matt or Abbey to send a donation.
Special thanks to those who surrounded Gail with love and friendship during the time she spent in Hilton Head Island.
