Kenneth Frederick Werring was born on January 10, 1939 to Harold and Adele (Ruman) Werring of New York, New York. The Lord called Ken home from the Windsor Manor in Venice, FL on January 14, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Johnson) Werring, brother-in-law Jerry Brooks, brother-in-law Charles (Rita) Johnson, sister-in-law Lois (Dennis) Liebich, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Ruth Brooks, and sister-in-law Joan Thomas.
Ken was a committed follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and a dedicated churchman who served in many ways over the years. In response to his Savior's love for him, Ken responded by generously helping other servants of the Lord in supporting their work and ministry.
Ken was a devoted husband who loved to travel throughout the United States visiting state capitals and National Parks with Mary as his constant companion. Ken retired as an elementary school teacher of over 30 years in Mahwah, New Jersey. He initially taught at Holy Cross Lutheran School for a few years, and then finished his teaching career at Joyce Kilmer Elementary School. Ken was a volunteer fireman at Company 1 in Mahwah, NJ and served a period of time as its Chief. Ken would often speak of those years and the bond he formed with his fellow firemen. This bond was shared with the many firemen and ambulance drivers he came in contact with over the years in Florida. Ken's administrative abilities were also shown as he served on many boards and associations in various capacities such as Mahwah Education Association, New Jersey Education Association and the Board of Directors of East Bergen Teachers Federal Credit Union. These responsibilities often took him away from home to National Conventions held throughout the country.
The Lord called Ken home on January 14, 2026 at the age of 87. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Port Charlotte, FL on February 9th at 10:30. Internment will be at Village Lutheran church in Bronxville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Lutheran Church of the Cross, Lutheran Bible Translators, or Tunnels to Towers.
Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:25-26
