Larry Ray Rounsley passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Linda by his side on December 22, 2025. He was born in Olympia, Washington on October 30, 1945, to Russel William Rounsley and Erma Lee (Van Camp) Rounsley. The family relocated to Tacoma where he grew up with his two brothers. The family then moved to the Rounsley family farm in Olympia when he was 9 years old. He worked hard on the farm and learned good work ethics which lasted throughout his life. He graduated from North Thurston High School in 1965 and married Kathleen Bird that same year. They had four children together and divorced in 1982.
Larry met his wife, Linda (Shumate) at church and they married in 1984 and added a step-son to his family. He worked for 32 years at Olympia Brewing Company where he retired in 1997. Larry also enjoyed his own landscaping business for many years and gave that up to travel with his wife after her retirement in 2018. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home and visited all 50 States along with his sister-in-law Chris and Jack McGibbon. After not being sure he would enjoy traveling, he ended up loving it and was so proud of all the places he was able to see.
He preferred a quiet, simple, peaceful life, and hunting deer and elk along side his hunting partner, Roger Winther was his passion. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, walking, watching birds, playing Solitaire, and being with family. He loved animals of all kinds and could beat anyone at spotting them. He loved eating hot dogs, ice cream and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. He was a hard worker and loved helping his son and step-son on their farms. He helped care for three of his in-laws for 28 years. He was a member of Mountain View Church of the Nazarene since 1972 and loved being a part of the choir and a weekly Bible Study group for many years.
Larry was a quiet man who loved nature and was devoted to God, his wife of 42 years, and his children, Tami Swilley (Jim), Larry Rounsley Jr. (Michelle), Teresa Guy (James Fink), Kevin Rounsley (Amy Johnson) and Tim Flumerfelt II. Larry is survived by his wife, his children, 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, his brother Dave Rounsley (Patty), his sister-in-law Judy Rounsley, sister-in-law Chris Bird McGibbon (Jack), brother-in-law Roger Bird (Rachel), sister-in-law Leisa Shumate Hill (David), lots of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends that he considered “family”. He is predeceased by his parents and brother Gordy, brother-in-law Larry Lee Shumate and brother-in-law Loren Shumate.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Church of the Nazarene, 940 Israel Rd SW, Tumwater, WA 98501 on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 1:00pm.
