Darold H. "PeeWee" Mullin (1949–2026)

Darold H. "PeeWee" Mullin, 76, passed away on January 10, 2026, at 11:50 PM, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and devotion to his family. Born June 27, 1949, in Yreka, California, to Hubert and Pearl Mullin, Darold was raised in the rugged beauty of Scott Valley alongside his older sister, Kathryn.

A Childhood of Resilience

Darold’s life was marked by early challenges. At age four, he survived a harrowing accident after falling from the family car into the path of an oncoming logging truck in Greenview. This event led to years of surgeries for scar tissue on the brain. To aid his recovery, his family moved to "Tiger Fork," a mining claim 2.5 miles up Sugar Creek Road near Callahan. In this wilderness, free from stress and neighbors, Darold thrived. He helped build the family’s three-bedroom cabin, learned to fish in Sugar Creek, and spent summers diving into a spring-fed swimming pool. His childhood was filled with chores—hauling wood and gardening—balanced by his love for building "civilization" for his collection of toy trucks on the hillsides behind his home.

Education and Family

Darold attended Etna Grammar School and Etna High School. It was on a school bus packed with 9-year-olds that he first met Elizabeth. Instantly smitten, he followed her from seat to seat until she agreed to talk to him, beginning a lifelong friendship. Though fate briefly separated them, they reunited in their early twenties and married soon after. Darold lovingly adopted Elizabeth’s daughter, Andrea, embracing fatherhood with characteristic heart and determination.

Career and Character

Known in the logging industry as "PeeWee," Darold was legendary for his energy and mechanical competence. He could operate any piece of heavy equipment and was known as the hardest worker on the job. A man of "strength, grit, and energy," he survived multiple chainsaw accidents with his limbs intact—a testament to his toughness. In the early 1970s, he moved his family to Washington State. He was a man who worked tirelessly to provide, and his greatest pride was seeing his daughter, Andrea, earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In his personal life, Darold was a man of faith with a deep love for the Word of God and a desire to help others. He remained mechanically inclined throughout his life, working on small engines and his personal vehicles, always hunting for the best deals on parts.

Survival and Legacy

Darold is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his daughter, Andrea; son-in-law, Dave; grandsons Jordan (spouse Lynndsay), Alec, and Cameron (spouse Naomi-Lynn); three great-grandchildren; his loving sister, Kathryn; and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who marveled at his amazing source of strength and his mind that worked "24-7."
