John Gatton, age 83, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026. He was born on May 30, 1942.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, soldier, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Kathy Gatton; his son, Steve Gatton; and his cherished grandchildren, Kayleigh, Connor, Brenna, Carly, Logan, and Mikaya, who brought him endless pride and joy. He is also survived by his best friend, Guy Girone, whose friendship meant the world to him.
John proudly served in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. His years of service reflected his dedication, strength, and sense of duty—qualities he carried with him throughout his life.
Known for his gift of conversation, John never met a stranger. He loved talking to people, sharing stories, and making new friends wherever he went. In his quieter moments, he found joy as a rock hound, always on the lookout for unique treasures, and he especially enjoyed fishing, appreciating the peace it brought him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 7th from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at the Alonda Villa Clubhouse, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor John’s life.
John will be remembered for his warm personality, his love of family, and the many connections he made throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and friendship that will live on in all who knew him.
