James Ronny Stevenson passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 with his daughter by his side; where he was read to, listened to worship music and talked to and reassured all day. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest next to his late wife, Lillian Stevenson at Parkway Memorial Gardens.
James was born November 12, 1941 in Jacksonville, Georgia to the late Gertrude Wells Peebles. He joined the United States Army on November 27, 1963 where he honed his skills as a sharp shooter for Battalion 71st Artillery US Forces. He met the love of his life and married, Lillian Inez on June 8, 1974 after being honorably discharged from the Army. He then became a truck driver for Sears Roebuck and Co. and retired in 2002. Retirement brought forth an Arts and Craft business he shared with his wife and he could often be found in his shop cutting wood to make signs, furniture and knick knacks to sell at craft shows.
James was a devout Catholic and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warner Robins, Georgia. Daily he would sit with his "grand dog", Bodie resting in God's word and loved to share hours of knowledge of the Bible to anyone who would listen. He recently resided at the Georgia War Veterans Home Transition Unit in Milledgeville, Georgia. There he called his home and loved all his nurses and enjoyed the company of his aides. His smiles were bright and big when anyone would come to visit.
He is survived by his daughters: Linda (Bruce) Mitchum of Byron, Georgia and Regina (Chris) Hill of Macon, Georgia; grandchildren: Ashley (Jeremy) Duncan of Kathleen, Georgia, Kyle O'Reilly of Byron, Georgia, Bethany Hill of Macon, Georgia, Audrey Duncan of Kathleen, Georgia, Makayla (Jacob) Wood of Lizella, Georgia, Wyatt Duncan, of Kathleen, Georgia, Wriggs Duncan of Kathleen, Georgia, and Hank W. Wood of Lizella, Georgia.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice of Macon, Georgia for all the love, support and care of James. Also, the Georgia War Veterans Home Transition Unit for the care and daily loving touch. The family could not have made it without any of you.
Please sign the online registry and leave a personal condolence for the family.
